Fire Protection From a Team That Answers the Phone

A fire alarm has one job: warn people early and get help on the way fast. TekPro designs, installs, inspects, and monitors fire alarm systems for homes and businesses in Panama City and across Northwest Florida. We’re a local company. Live people who work for us answer the phone, and our own technicians do the service work, so you see a familiar face on every visit.

Need a new system, an annual inspection, or help with a panel that won’t stop beeping? We can help with all three.

Residential and Commercial Fire Alarms

For Your Home

Smoke alarms that only beep inside the house can’t help if nobody is home. A monitored fire alarm system sends an alert to our monitoring center, so help can be called even when you’re at work, asleep, or out of town.

  • Monitored smoke, heat, and carbon monoxide (CO) detection
  • Works with your TekPro security system and app
  • Help with new-construction and remodel requirements

For Your Business

Offices, shops, restaurants, churches, warehouses, and multi-unit buildings need a system that passes inspection and stays that way. We handle the work from the first drawing to the final test with your fire official.

  • New systems, expansions, and tenant build-outs
  • Annual inspections and testing with written reports
  • 24/7 monitoring of fire, trouble, and supervisory signals

Our Fire Alarm Services

Fire Alarm Inspections and Florida Code Compliance

In Florida, commercial fire alarm systems fall under the Florida Fire Prevention Code. That code adopts NFPA 72, the national fire alarm code, which sets how systems are installed, inspected, tested, and maintained. Your local fire official enforces it and may have local rules too.

What that means for you:

  • Regular testing. Most fire alarm devices need to be tested at least once a year, and some parts get checked more often. We set up a schedule that fits your building.
  • Smoke detector sensitivity checks. NFPA 72 calls for these on a set schedule after installation. We track the dates for you.
  • A tag on your panel. Florida requires a service tag on the fire alarm control panel after any installation, inspection, test, or repair. We fill it out every time.
  • Written reports. You get a report after each inspection, ready to share with your fire marshal, property manager, or insurance agent.

If something fails, we’ll explain what it is in plain words, what it costs to fix, and how fast we can get it done.

24/7 Fire Alarm Monitoring

A fire alarm only helps if someone acts on it. With TekPro monitoring, your system is watched around the clock, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Here’s what happens when your alarm goes off:

  1. A detector or pull station triggers the alarm, and the horns and strobes sound in your building.
  2. Your panel sends a signal to the monitoring center over cellular, internet, or phone line.
  3. The monitoring center contacts the fire department and calls the people on your contact list.
  4. If the panel reports a problem instead, such as a cut wire, a low battery, or lost power, we’re alerted so it can be fixed before it matters.

Monitoring is included with every system and is billed monthly, quarterly, or yearly, depending on your contract.

Maintenance and Repairs

Beeping panels, false alarms, and “trouble” lights are common, especially in older systems and after storms or power outages. We find the cause and fix it. That might mean a dead backup battery, a dirty detector, a loose wire, or a part that has reached the end of its life. We also replace outdated panels when parts are no longer made.

Types of Fire Alarm Systems We Install

  • Conventional systems. Devices are wired in zones. When one goes off, the panel shows which zone, such as “2nd floor east.” A simple, cost-effective choice for smaller buildings.
  • Addressable systems. Every device has its own address, so the panel shows exactly which detector or pull station was triggered. Best for larger buildings and easier to troubleshoot.
  • Detection devices: smoke detectors, heat detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, duct detectors for HVAC systems, and manual pull stations.
  • Notification devices: horns, strobes, and horn/strobes that alert people to get out, including people who are hard of hearing.

Not sure which you need? We’ll recommend the right type for your building and budget, and we won’t oversell.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. In Florida, fire alarm work requires an alarm system contractor license that includes fire. Our license holder, Cole Connolly, holds Florida license EF20002191.

In many cases, yes. We can inspect, repair, and monitor most systems installed by other companies. If your panel is outdated or parts are no longer made, we’ll explain your upgrade options. Call us and we’ll take a look.

Most fire alarm devices must be tested at least once a year under NFPA 72, which Florida adopts through its fire code. Some parts are checked more often, and your local fire official may have extra rules. We’ll set a schedule that keeps you compliant.

Usually, yes. In Florida, a fire alarm system required by the building or fire code generally has to be monitored by an approved monitoring station. Your fire official makes the final call for your building, and we can help you find out what applies.

Florida requires smoke alarms in new homes, and newer homes with gas appliances, a fireplace, or an attached garage also need carbon monoxide alarms. A monitored system goes further: it calls for help even when no one is home.

A conventional system shows which zone an alarm came from. An addressable system shows the exact device. Addressable systems cost more up front, but they’re easier to troubleshoot and work well in larger buildings.

Your panel signals the monitoring center right away. The center contacts the fire department and calls the people on your contact list. Trouble signals, like a low battery or cut wire, are reported too so they can be fixed quickly.

It depends on the size of the building, the type of system, and what your code requires. We’ll visit, look at your space, and give you a clear, free quote with no surprises.
